Your Workout Routine Has Gone Virtual — Now What?
Over eight months into the pandemic, many of us are still struggling to master a new fitness routine. Transitioning to at-home workouts when your mind and body is accustomed to public gyms, group classes and/or personal training sessions is a vast adjustment. While some gyms and fitness studios have reopened their doors, many people are still choosing to exercise from the comfort of their homes. Thankfully, there are easy ways to change up your routine and make the experience much more efficient and enjoyable.
1. Build Your Sanctuary
Invest in a home gym set up. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, but adding a few key props to your holiday wish list is sure to help revamp and meet your fitness needs. We recommend a yoga mat, resistance bands and/or a set of dumbbells. If you’re interested in the recovery side of fitness, foam rollers are a must-have. It’s completely viable to use household items as exercise tools, but having some gym equipment on-hand during this time is sure to help inspire a solid workout, just like at the gym.
2. Shake It Up
With most renowned fitness instructors and studios transitioning to online platforms, a new opportunity has opened up for fitness folks to try workouts from all over the world. Try signing onto Zoom with a friend and check out a new fitness video together, while still being apart. We love Life Time On Demand and the PowerFit Training Center Instagram for quality workouts and training advice.
3. Be Kind To Yourself
Even the most organized and motivated us still must acknowledge these tumultuous times require rest and reflection. Stress levels are at an all-time high due to the global health crises, environmental distress and an unsettling political climate. While exercise is key to reconnecting with the mind and body, rest is equally important during this period. Your workout schedule may not be perfect — honor exactly where you’re at right now and find the right community to support you on this journey. We love our Unique Fit community on Facebook for connecting likeminded people interested in health and wellness.
